Some of the biggest names from the Kanata North Tech Park are hitting the road – virtually – in search of the next generation of top-tier Canadian talent.

The 2021 Discover Technata Roadshow, hosted by the Kanata North Business Association and several partners, is a free digital event geared towards recent graduates and alumni looking for job opportunities in the tech industry.

The tour will include six virtual stops at major Ontario post-secondary institutions, including University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College, University of Waterloo, Queens University and University of Toronto.

Victoria McGlone, COO at the KNBA.

“This is a unique opportunity for students to meet with more than 540 companies in one place,” says Victoria McGlone, chief operating officer at the Kanata North Business Association. “Kanata North currently has over 600 open roles and we expect this number to double over the coming months.”

Students attending the event will receive an overview of the Kanata North tech park ecosystem as well as hear about the technical innovation happening within the community.

Local companies including accelerator L-SPARK, telecom giant Mitel and systems design house Syntronic will host breakout room sessions with students to answer questions and provide a more in-depth look at their specific sectors.

The online event will also feature representatives from the Ottawa community, including Invest Ottawa, Ottawa Tourism and the Ottawa Senators to share what it’s like to live, work, play and learn in the national capital region.

The free virtual roadshows will conclude with a keynote presentation from Jason Flick, co-founder and former CEO of You.i TV. Flick built the streaming technology company from the ground up in the Kanata North community and recently sold it to media giant Time Warner – a shining example of the success stories found in Kanata North, says McGlone.

“Kanata North thrives on top talent and there is nowhere better to live, work, play and learn than in Canada’s largest tech park,” she adds. “This roadshow will connect more students and graduates with jobs than ever before, helping to fuel growth and innovation in our thriving tech community.”
