One of Kanata’s biggest tech firms has a new chief executive. Mary McDowell brings some 30 years of industry experience, including stints at Nokia and Polycom, to the role. She takes over from Rich McBee, who spent eight years as the company’s CEO.

“Mitel has a storied history of innovation, a trusted brand and a unique ability to meet customers wherever they are on their path to the cloud,” McDowell said in a press release. “I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and eager to work closely with Mitel’s experienced team and network of partners to continue delivering solutions that make communications and collaboration more seamless for our customers.”

McDowell’s appointment comes less than a year after Mitel was acquired by California-based Searchlight Capital for US$2 billion.
