Serious Tech couldn’t exist in Kanata North if it weren’t for the amazing talent that works (and lives!) here.

We’re going to be highlighting some of the incredible people that call Kanata North home and today, we’ve put our focus on Ronald Richardson — Co-Founder and VP of Product at Benbria.

Q: Why did you decide to start this company? What were some of your biggest challenges in those early years, and how did you overcome them?

I started Benbria for the challenge, the community, and the rewards. The challenges of building a business excite me: designing solutions, growing a customer base, shaping a workplace culture, competing globally, and winning.

The business brings great value to my community; a great mentor once told me you work hard to feed yourself, harder yet to feed your family, and by building a business, you can support the same for hundreds of families. Finally: experience, exposure, and ownership are just some of the enticing rewards.

The largest early challenge was winning our first customers and making those relationships successful. Early partnerships with Mitel and their reseller channel gave us visibility into a market and access to a customer base that accelerated our early wins.

Q: What is your role today at Benbria? Can you tell us a bit about what you do on a day-to-day basis?

I am the Vice President of Product Management at Benbria and I am responsible for the Loop product. My day-to-day involves a lot of communication and coordination.

Externally, I meet with our customers, prospects, technology partners, business partners, suppliers, advisors, and specialists from our industry to communicate about our product and collect ideas.

Internally, I work with our developers, salespeople, customer success team, marketing team, management team, and directors to make sure everyone is aligned on the vision for the product and the details, as necessary. I design and manage the product roadmap, the engineering team’s prioritization, various processes to ensure consistency and quality, plans and requirements for specific product features, pricing models, product positioning, and much more.

The job is fun, sometimes exhausting, and very rewarding.
